Aboriginal rights negotiations are underway in all regions of the Northwest Territories as Aboriginal Governments seek to confirm their Aboriginal and treaty rights. The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is a full partner to Aboriginal rights negotiations and continues to promote workable and affordable agreements that respect Aboriginal rights.

Self-government negotiations
The GNWT is presently engaged in the following self-government agreement negotiations. Self-government negotiations with the Sahtu Dene and Métis of Colville Lake, Fort Good Hope, Norman Wells, and Tulita are underway as part of the Sahtu Dene and Métis Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement.
