The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is announcing that Housing NWT is now accepting applications for single intake homeowner repair programs.
Guided by Housing NWT’s Renewal Strategy, most of the homeowner repair programs have increased funding thresholds and all programs now use a single application form. As well, some repair programs have returned to a single intake period to ensure fairness of allocating funds, provide the time needed to scope projects and procure supplies for the following year, evaluate programs annually, and better plan for the next year’s intake.
Applications are open April 1 to October 31, 2023 for the following single intake homeowner repair programs with approved repairs beginning April 1, 2024:
Seniors Aging in Place - up to $15,000 available for minor repairs for senior homeowners
Seniors Home Repair - up to $50,000 available for major home repairs for senior homeowners
Preventative Maintenance - up to $5,000 available for maintenance and minor repairs
Mobility Modifications - up to $50,000 available for accessibility improvements
Applications are open year-round for the following repair programs with approved repairs taking place as urgently as needed:
Emergency Repairs - up to $15,000 available for repairs that require immediate attention
Fuel Tank Replacement - up to $15,000 available for replacement of aging fuel tanks
Applications for the Homeownership Initiative, for current public housing clients, and the Home Purchase Program, for downpayment assistance, are open year-round.
District office program advisors will be traveling to communities to meet with residents interested in applying for any of Housing NWT homeowner programs.
