Summer Highway Construction Projects Across the NWT

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is investing approximately $140 million in highway infrastructure improvements across the territory as part of the 2026 summer construction season.
Well-maintained highways connect NWT residents and communities to each other and help support sustainable communities by providing access to goods and economic opportunities.
This annual program helps ensure the safety, reliability, and long-term sustainability of the NWT transportation network while supporting economic activity and connecting communities.
Drivers are reminded to plan for extra travel time, watch for highway crews and equipment, slow down in all construction zones and obey signs and flag persons.

The GNWT will invest approximately $140 million on highway and Bridge projects across the Northwest Territories during the 2026 construction season.
Work will take place on NWT highways and access roads, including maintenance, rehabilitation, and reconstruction activities.
The Northwest Territories transportation system includes 3,873 kilometres of all-weather highways, winter roads, and access roads, 27 airports, four ferries/ice crossings, and over 350 bridges and major structures.
