The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) wants residents to be aware that COVID-19 and other communicable illnesses are still present and continue to spread. In order to encourage residents to protect themselves by strengthening their immune system, the GNWT is launching a multifaceted campaign called “Building a Stronger You!”.
It is important for us to stay vigilant and take small but vital steps to protect our health and wellbeing. Boosting your immune system is a simple way to make sure your body is ready to fight any illnesses that you come in contact with.
Healthy immune systems are built by:
Maintaining a healthy diet
Eating foods that are nourishing
Exercising regularly
Spending time outdoors or getting out on the land
Staying hydrated
Getting enough sleep
Minimizing stress
Reducing substance use (alcohol, drugs, and tobacco)
Maintaining a healthy weight
Practicing good hygiene
In addition to developing a healthy immune system, staying up to date on immunizations, is another way to protect yourself and those around you from preventable diseases and severe outcomes. Check out the NWT Immunization Schedule for more information.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic we learned a lot about different ways to protect ourselves and our communities from illness. The GNWT encourages all residents to follow current recommendations and maintain healthy habits like, wash your hands often, wear a mask in public, practice social distancing, and stay home when you’re sick.
