Barges, Cargo, and Freight

Marine Transportation Services (MTS) provides seasonal marine resupply to communities across the Mackenzie River system, Great Slave Lake, and the Western Arctic.

Operated by the Government of the Northwest Territories since 2017, MTS transports cargo and fuel using shallow-draft tugboats and barges designed for northern waterways. The northern shipping season typically runs from June to October, depending on weather and water conditions.
